In the days leading up to our most wonderiferous trip to ALA last month I’m sure my friends got absolutely sick of…well…every word that came out of my mouth. See, there were three books that I simply HAD to get. Three books that would make or break the weekend. If I got these three and only these three I would leave a happy book nerd. If I didn’t get them…it simply wouldn’t have mattered how many other books I did get. I wouldn’t care at all.
Luckily, and thanks to the most awesome people at Harper Collins and Macmillan, I did get all three books. YAY!
And now that I have read them all I wanted to post some mini reviews (as they don’t come out for awhile I don’t want to do full reviews yet) and, it was a very painful decision, but I feel I can be generous enough to give one of them away.
Unbreakable by Elizabeth Norris.
Basically, Stacee got to read this before me and I hated her for it. So now that I’ve read it we can be friends again. Also BEN! And awesome sci-fi! And good writing! And storytelling and world building. And every bit of this was amazing and exactly what I wanted. The ending was bittersweet but felt right for the characters. And the action basically never stopped. I loved every single minute of this book. And I cannot wait to see what Elizabeth Norris does next.

Hrmmm. Yeah. I was so, so, so excited for this book. The cover is gorgeous! And the blurb sounded amazing! And the cover is GORGEOUS! But I was rather disappointed. It just didn’t do anything new or fresh in the dystopia genre and I felt the world building left a lot to be desired. And, personally, I didn’t connect with any of the characters. I will explain my feelings further closer to release date.
And now for the very exciting title that we will be giving away.
Drum roll? …No? Well. Okay then.
Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
In a word this book was extraordinary. It starts off with a bang and just doesn’t stop. The world building that was begun in Shadow and Bone is expanded and given more depth and more mythology and more awesome (DRAGON!!!!!) and more characters. I don’t think I can coherently communicate my love of this book and it’s characters. The mysteries, the imagery, the writing…everything just comes together so perfectly. It was like…you know when you go see a blockbuster movie for the explosions and the awesome and it has all of that but then it has this surprising emotional and character depth as well and you leave the theatre BLOWN AWAY on ALL levels? Yeah. That’s this book.
And here’s your chance to win it!
This contest is for a gently used ARC of Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo. And is open to US/Canada.
