This marks our second day of giveaways and we have a very special treat. Not only is it an ARC of Beautiful Darkness by the equally lovely Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, but it’s a signed ARC. And two Beautiful Darkness gel bracelets!
It had been awhile since I read Beautiful Creatures, and as it’s out on loan at the moment I didn’t have a chance to reacquaint myself with it, so I found getting back into the story was a little difficult. Mostly because I didn’t remember everyone’s name and their relationship to the two main characters. Once I got back into it though, it was a fast paced, enjoyable read.
For me, what shines in both Beautiful books is the characters. Every single one of them feel so alive and have such personality. From Ethan to the random busybodies around town, they are all real people.
I don’t want to say too much about the plot, but let’s just say it focuses on Ethan and Link who have both been (seemingly) snubbed by the females they are crazy about. They venture into a long-shot journey to save the people they care about and make sense of what is going on around them.
Also, there is a new creepy boy in town whom Ethan doesn’t like. And a new English girl who…Lena doesn’t really know at all but I don’t think she likes her.
The book was fun with surprises around every corner. I loved learning about a certain character’s back story, how it all related to the present, and how everything was so close to being so very different.
I do wish certain characters had been more involved in bringing the story a resolution and not dependent upon others. But, I can say no more about that here and now.
Vibrant characters, fun journeys, surprise reveals, all add up to a very solid sequel. I look forward to seeing where they take the series next.
